About PDM- DECS
The Diabetes Education Consultative Section (in short form named DECS) was founded in October 2002 under the umbrella of the Malaysian Diabetes Association (Persatuan Diabetes Malaysia) under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Chan Siew Pheng, former president of Malaysian Diabetes Association and the co-founders are Mdm Tan Ming Yeong, Ms Lee Lai Fun, Mdm Cheah Kit Yoong and Mdm Daljeet Kaur.
To establish a diabetes education foundation to identify and address issues relating to diabetes education in Malaysia.
to promote and maintain professional standards of practice of diabetes education and management amongst diabetes educators in Malaysia
to develop and maintain an organizational structure for health professionals involved in diabetes education and to encourage members to attain continuity and professional growth in diabetes education
to provide a forum for teaching, learning and networking for health care professionals involved in diabetes education and management
to promote the importance of diabetes education by increasing awareness in the general public, health care providers, government and non-government organizations.
How to join DECS?
There are two categories of membership available. You are required to be an active paid up member of Malaysian Diabetes Association to become DECS member. Membership is open to qualified medical professionals who are currently involve in diabetes education or have interest in Diabetes Management. Membership form are available at the above address or log on to www.pdm/portal.com.my
What are the categories of membership?
As a full member of DECS, you are eligible for office bearing and cast your vote in the general election. You may enjoy the full membership benefits listed.
To qualify for full membership, the person require to fulfill the following criteria:
a) Attended and completed at least one diabetes course / workshop in the last 5 years.
b) Conduct a minimum of six hours of Diabetes education or diabetes clinic management per week
You are require to produce a copy of certification of attendance with your first time application and annual renewal of membership
You may enjoy the part of the member benefits, but have no voting power and you may not hold any office post in DECS.
To qualify as an associate member
Medical professionals or layperson active in diabetes education/diabetes care that does not meet the criteria (a) and (b) as stated above.
